Vierwaldstättersee
March 17, 2007
This is a painting from an art postcard in what I think is art deco style. The motif is very faithful to the actual mountain scenery at the southern tip of the Lake Uri wing in Switzerland’s Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee in German). I’ve sat three sessions so far. (27 x 21 cm, oil/canvas, unfinished, 2007)

Soy Cuba
March 17, 2007
This is a sketch and an unfinished painting from a poster for the black-and-white movie Soy Cuba. When drawing I find it always amazing what little changes to lips and eyes can lead to complete reversals in facial expressions, and so it’s difficult to get large human faces right. In that sense I’m happy with the result, although the painting does not yet sufficiently convey that the original poster shows a black actress with curly hair. (29 x 21 cm, pencil/paper, 40 x 30 cm, oil/canvas, unfinished, both 2006)

Delphic Sybil
March 17, 2007
This is a sketch of the Delphic Sibyl’s head as painted by Michelangelo in the early 16th century on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. (29 x 21cm, pencil/paper, circa 2005)
